Lt.'s Log, 10.02.15   Freaky Friday

So, I happened to be driving at 630am this morning, and when I turned on the main road, facing east, I saw something similar to this site:
It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a.... ?
Since I don't watch the news, I had no idea what was going on. I'd never seen something like it before, so of course my mind wandered to all the possibilities. Plane crash? Secret government plane experiment? Spaceship? Meteor? Ya, it had to be meteor. My son was convinced it wasn't man-made. I began to nervously rant about how he needed to major in Space Physics, and begin to design spacecraft so that when Earth is too toxic, we can escape in one. Then I lectured him about being an important scientist that will be protected in an emergency and perhaps help think of ways to save mankind. Yes, I've seen too many movies.

After a few minutes, the small bright orb leading this quick-moving energy bolt began to outrun its tail, and slowly descended, seeming to fall to the Earth - perhaps in the Atlantic Ocean?, but then began to fade. It did remind me of the NASA shuttle launch and rocket-booster drops, but I had not heard of anything going on. After that, the blue bubble burst and dissipated, into a ring of clouds and a smear of pastel yellow smoke, that began to spread out. By then, I was at a stoplight and took a picture with my cel phone camera:

When I got home and checked online news, sure enough... it was a rocket launching. Whew, what a relief. But it also happened a few weeks ago and spooked many others in my state who saw it happen then, who also had not been warned about the launching, so they assumed it was a UFO.
